Nova Henry, 24, and 10-month-old Ava were found shot to death Saturday, January 24 in a South Loop condo.
As friends and family members mourn the loss of their loved one's Saturday, they were also searching for justice. So far, the comfort of knowing who committed such horrible crimes and why will have to wait. Instead, friends and relatives laid the two to rest, celebrating a dedicated and giving young woman and the family she loved.
A steady stream of the grief-stricken quietly made the pilgrimage to a south suburban church to mourn, to pray, and to say goodbye to Nova Henry and daughter Ava.
"Whatever I can do to extend to support the family. I'm here," said childhood friend Kewan Smith.
Some friends tried to support one another while attempting to understand the brutality that claimed the two lives.
"I'm totally devastated and shocked. I've know her parents since 1988," said family friend Iris Woodard.
Henry was remembered Saturday as a dedicated mother, daughter and friend who refused to give up on her dream to go to college and eventually pursue a career in dentistry.
As for her baby girl, there were stories of her smiles and the joy she brought others during her very young life.
"They are doing the best they can to handle everything going on with the situation," friend Donald Foster told ABC7 Chicago.
Inside the sanctuary, there was little talk of how authorities found the bodies of Henry and her daughter inside their apartment or the multiple gunshot wounds that silenced their spirits. There was gratitude that police found the 3-year-old son Henry had with ex-Chicago Bulls player Eddy Curry unharmed.

"The pastor spoke from Psalms 121. Where do you go from here? Where do you go after a tragedy. The source. I am that I am God," Henry friend Ramonski Luv said.

Relatives say what makes the tragedy even more difficult is knowing that no one has been charged with the murders. Family members said that Henry had been having trouble with an ex-boyfriend and had an order of protection. Investigators would only admit that they were looking for a known acquaintance of the woman.
"I just hope the famoly doesn't have to go through years of pain with the unknown," said Lisa Newman, Ava's godmother.
Police investigators have said Eddy curry is not a target of their investigation. He was in Philadelphia with his New York Knicks team members the night of the murders.
