Found in The State 04 January 2005: Graveside service for Hugh Buchanan McMaster, 87, will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Mr. McMaster died Monday, January 3, 2005. Born in Florence on June 14, 1917, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Gregg McMaster. The family moved to Kingstree in 1932, where he later graduated from high school. His academic career at Presbyterian College was interrupted by his service in the United States Army. He served three and one-half years in the European Theatre during World War II and participated in two major campaigns with the 9th and 3rd Armies. He graduated from Presbyterian College in 1947 with a BS degree in commerce. Mr. McMaster married Miss Jeanne Kelly of Columbia in 1950, and the couple owned and operated the McMaster Agency for many years, dealing in fire and casualty insurance in Columbia. Mrs. McMaster predeceased him in September 2004. For many years they performed volunteer services at the Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, for which they received special recognition. Mr. McMaster was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Gregg McMaster, Jr.; and nephews, John G. McMaster III, Henry D. McMaster, George H. McMaster, William G. McMaster, Frank B. McMaster and Joseph D. McMaster; and great nieces and great nephews, all of Columbia. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Riley A. Bradham, Jr. of Sumter.
