Sister Mary Aelred Schaefer, 77, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Saturday, November 20, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Rev. Gerald Walker O.F.M.C.A.P. will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
Hildegard Schaefer, was born Aug. 17, 1905, at Potosi, Wis., daughter of the late John H. and Barbara Pleu Pluemer Schaefer. She entered the convent June 17, 1924 and professed her vows to Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, Aug. 14, 1927. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College and her Masters Degree in education from The St. Louis University. Sister Mary Aelred Schaefer taught at Sacred Heart School, Manitowoc, Manitowoc., (sic) Oneida Guardian Angels, Holy Family Academy, Chilton, emyyyilton, (sic) New Holstein, St. Joseph Oneida, Neopit, Rhinelander, Corpus Christi in Sturgeon Bay, Seymour, Wis., Ironwood, Menominee and Petoskey, Mich., St. Willibrord, Chicago and Wellsburg, Ohio. She was local director of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 1966 to 1972.
Survivors include Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, nine brothers, Thomas of Porterville, Calif., Paul of Dubuque, Iowa, Aelred of Platteville, Wis., Victor, Alvin, Orville, Joseph, Cyril and Francis Schaefer all of Potosi, Wis.; two sisters, Sister Aimee Schaefer of Rhinelander, Wis. and Mrs. Nellie Brooks of Milwaukee.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday. Prayer service 7 p.m. Monday at the Convent Chapel. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
