One of nine known children born to Dr. Thomas Pride Shields and his second wife Elizabeth Jane Ford, Carrington married Margaret Thomasia Howard on 20 Aug 1908 at Memphis, Tennessee and they were the parents of Margaret Carrington Shields, (1910-2004) wife of Saul Chesterfield Oppenheim and Thomas Pride Shields, (1913-1998).
