He was the first president of the Screen Actors Guild. He appeared as a guest performer in over 50 television programs and acted in over 40 films and television shows. He portrayed George Hayes on "Guiding Light" from 1963 until 1968. He continued to appear on other daytime dramas such as "Somerset," "The Edge of Night," "Another World," and "As The World Turns." His last memorable role was Judge Truman Ventor on the NBC series, "Sisters," from 1991 until 1995. He died of complications from bone disease.
