Birthname: Ole Mikalson Skolrood

Father: Mikal Christoforson Skolrood
Mother: Anna Maria (Olsdatter Bragelibakken) Skolrood

Siblings: Christian "Chris", Henry, Christina, Martin, Anna, John, Caroline "Carrie", Petro and Tillie Skolrood

Wife: Maren "Mary" Swanson (DOB: 8-7-1864) married Jan. 22, 1884, she was the daughter of Hans and Karen Swanson of Gratiot, Lafayette Co., WI (Ole, his brother Chris, and his sister, Christina all married Swanson siblings).

Children: Michael and Alfred Skolrood

Ole Skolrood was born Feb. 13, 1858 in Norway. He was the second of ten children born to Mikal and Anna Skolrood. On Apr 28, 1866, at the age of 8 his family immigrated from Norway on the ship "Anna Delius" and arrived in Quebec, Canada where they then journeyed to the large Norwegian settlement of Gratiot Village, Lafayette Co, WI. His family established a farm near the Hans Swanson family.

On Jan. 22, 1884 he was married to Mary Swanson. He farmed in Gratiot Township, WI and they had two sons, Michael and Alfred. Both sons died young on the family farm near Gratiot, WI. Ole passed away Feb. 13, 1943 and is buried in the West Wiota Cemetery, Gratiot, Lafayette Co., WI.

He was survived by brother, Martin Skolrood of Canada; sisters, Mrs. Anna Hagen, Carrie Skolrood and Tillie Skolrood of Madison, WI.

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Skolrood in 1931; infant son, Michael in 1892 and 11 year old son, Alfred in 1906; father, Mikal Skolrood in 1879; mother, Anna Skolrood in 1894; sisters, Mrs. Christina Swanson in 1917, Petro Skolrood in 1923; and brothers, John Skolrood in 1904, Henry Skolrood in 1909, and Chris Skolrood in 1925.

Observing from records, the Skolrood family initially immigrated to the US from Norway in 1866 under the name of Mikalson; for the 1870 census they were listed as Christofoson and by the 1880 census were using the name Skolrood, which was probably the Norwegian farm area (Scholrud or Skaalerud) they were from in Norway.

Some info from the "Hønsi-Hanse Genealogy - Records of the Descendants of Hans Gulbrandsen Hønsi in America", compiled by Fred A. Hanse in 1962.
