John Thomas Peterson, sixth child of John and Ann Spurgeon Peterson was born in Lawshe, Ohio on March 14, 1838.

John Thomas, a Civil War Veteran, was a life-long farmer and was very active in the Lawshe Christian Church. It was noted in his obituary that he "was a lover of music, spending much time in singing".

John married Drusilla Ann Florea on November 18, 1866 and they were married for 53 years 10 months. To their union were born ten children; Cinderella May, Vincent L., Mahlan Virgil, Sylvia Daisy, Albert Vernon, John Jason, Andrew Leroy "Roy", Elizabeth "Lizzie" Adday, Orval Edwin and Melvin Ray, who died at the very young age of 1 year, 9 months and 20 days.

At the age of 86 years, 8 months and 3 days John Thomas died on November 17, 1924. At the time of his death he was survived by nine children, thirty grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and was buried in Lawshe Cemetery beside Drusilla who preceded him in death three years earlier.
