Ralph Vandine Peterson, born on December 16, 1829 in Adams County, Ohio, was the first child born to John and Ann Spurgeon Peterson. Ralph's namesakes are his Paternal Grandparents, Ralph Peterson and Susanna Vandine Peterson.

Ralph married Viannah Jones and to their marriage were born: Julia Ann Peterson Cobler, John Abel, James A. Ross, Vernon O., Birdie L. Peterson Leisure and Mahlon Bluford.

In reviewing Census Records, Ralph, Viannah and Julia moved from Adams County, Ohio to Grant County, Indiana around 1861 or 1862. Ralph continued to farm as did his father and grandfather before him.

Ralph died on August 8, 1907 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 23 days and was buried in Knox Chapel Cemetery in Point Isabel, Grant County Indiana.
