Sister Mary Nugent, age 85, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Thursday, August 19, 1993, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 23, 1993, at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Concelebrating the Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be two brothers, Msgr. James Nugent and Msgr. Michael Nugent, and a nephew Rev. Larry Hummer with burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born September 19, 1907, in Cambridge, Ohio, daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Slayman Nugent. She entered the convent in 1929 and professed her vows in 1932. Sister Mary earned a BA Degree and a Ph.D Degree from The Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. Sister Mary served as a teacher at St. Paul, St. Boniface, Roncalli High School and Silver Lake College, Manitowoc; St. Therese and Xavier High School, Appleton; St. Patrick, Maple Grove; St. Francis, Hollandtown, Wis.; Rosecrans High School, Zanesville, Ohio and Catholic Central High School, Steubenville, Ohio. She served as a counselor and teacher at the Newman Center in Chicago, Ill., and Tucson, Ariz.; coordinator at the Marygrove Retreat House, Garden, Mich. and Dean of Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wis. from 1948-1960. After her retirement from active ministry, Sister Mary served as a hospitality hostesses at Maria Reina Convent, Lima, Peru. Since 1986, she has been residing at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth DeLong, Margaret Ellen Flanagan, Winifred and Earl Hummer, all of Columbus, Ohio, Catherine O'Connor, Rockville, Md., and Rose and Earl Farrell, Fort Thomas, Ken.; two brothers, Msgr. Michael Nugent and Msgr. James Nugent, Columbus, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Christine Nugent, Cambridge, Ohio; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 1993, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting with funeral arrangements.
