Mary first married Charles David Gaillard of Anderson, SC in May, 1864. Charles was killed in combat outside Petersburg, VA only a few months afterward. She met her second husband, Rev. William H. Williams, in 1869 when he became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, SC where her father was a deacon. She raised seven children all of whome led successful, productive lives.
