Leon D. Smith, age 92, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Leon is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marie E. Smith of Albuquerque, NM, son, Stephen and his wife, Bjorg Austrheim-Smith of Newcastle, CA, son, Bradley and his wife, Anita Smith of Edgewood, NM, son, Philip and his wife, Kelly Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Leon had a passion for fine food and wine and enjoyed sharing it with his family and his many friends.
Until his death, Leon was a dedicated patriot and would share his stories from the beginning of the nuclear age to all who would listen - there was never a shortage of people wanting to hear him.
Leon will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at French - Lomas followed by a reception, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Leon will be laid to rest privately at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Humane New Mexico, 615 Virginia St. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
