Father Doyle, son of the late John T. and Marie Lawlor Doyle, was born on November 29, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation from Northeast Catholic High School for Boys in 1943, he entered the Oblates and made his First Profession on May 7, 1944. He made his Perpetual Profession on May 7, 1947. He graduated from the Catholic University of America where he pursued philosophy, chemistry and physics. He was ordained on June 7, 1952, by Bishop Edmund Fitzmaurice at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wilmington, DE.

"Father Doyle had a deep commitment to serving the people of God," Rev. James J. Greenfield, OSFS, Oblate provincial said. "From his years in Africa to his ministry as a priest and teacher here in the States, especially at St. Cecilia's, he was clearly dedicated to preaching the Gospel and teaching the faith to hungry hearts. We Oblates have deep respect for his gentleness, especially the humble way he lived his final years among us."

His teaching assignments included his alma mater, Northeast Catholic High School, Cathedral Prep, Erie, PA, and Salesianum School, Wilmington, DE. He received a master's degree in natural science from the University of Delaware in 1961. Father Doyle studied physics at the Case Institute of Technology on a General Electric Fellowship, Chemistry at the Carnegie Institute of Technology on a Westinghouse Fellowship, and Biophysical Chemistry at the New Mexico Highlands University on a grant from the National Science Foundation.

He was a member of the American Chemical Society, National Science Teachers Association, Delaware Teachers of Science Association and past president of the Middle States Science Teachers Association. He was awarded the Outstanding Science Teacher in the State of Delaware by the American Chemical Society in 1961.

In 1963, Father Doyle served as an Oblate missionary in the Diocese of Keimoes in South Africa. During this time, he served as principal and science teacher at Salesianum High School in South Africa (1964-1976) and as assistant regional superior (1965-1975).

A man of many talents, he was responsible for numerous carpentry and stained glass projects in various Oblate communities.

After serving 13 years in the Oblate missions, Father Doyle returned to serve as associate pastor at Incarnation and St. Mary parishes in Tampa, FL. In 1982, he became parochial vicar at St. Cecilia Parish, Fort Myers, FL, until his retirement to Annecy Hall in 2005.

In addition to his Oblate religious community, he is survived by his brothers, James and Joseph Doyle; sisters, Gertrude Salerno and Margaret Bouffard; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie Doyle, Jane Donofrey, Madylin Cramer and Rev. Stephen Doyle, OFM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 am, Saturday, February 19, at Our Lady of Light Chapel, 1120 Blue Ball Road, Childs, MD, with visitation from 9-11 am. Interment will follow the Mass in Oblate Cemetery, Childs.
