Mary E. Everhart, daughter of Sarah "Sally" (Driskel) and John R. Everhart, married Ernest V. East December 25, 1881, in Cass County, MI. The "Standard Atlas of Cass County, Michigan 1896", Porter Township, p. 26, shows that Mary (Everhart) and Ernest V. East owned the original John R. Everhart home and 75 acres in Section 12, Porter Township, Cass County, Michigan.

Although the original surame of this Pennsylvania family was spelled, "Eberhard", some of this generation chose, "Everhart",when migrating west and settling in Michigan. Mary's father, John R. Everhart, has a prominent stone in Poe Cemetery, Newberg Twp., Cass Co., MI, which clearly uses the spelling, "Everhart". However, other siblings of John R.'s continued to use, "Eberhard".
