Mae Mary Whitney Soudelier, 96, a native and resident of Houma, was received into her heavenly home at 8:38 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Liturgy of the Word will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial to follow in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

She is survived by four sons, T.J. Soudelier Jr. and Lanier Soudelier Sr. of Houma, Kent Soudelier Sr. and wife, Alice of Houston, and Warren Phillip Soudelier and wife, Rachael, of Patterson; two daughters, Carolyn S. Boudreaux and husband, Whitney J. Boudreaux Jr., of Houma and Linda S. Pepper and husband, Ronald, of Houma; brother, Daniel Whitney and wife, Willie Lou of Houma; sister, Pearl W. Gros and husband, Wilbert of Labadieville; and 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and counting, and 16 great-great-grandchildren and counting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus J. Soudelier Sr.; her parents, Robert J. Whitney and wife, Alcina Rhodes Whitney; son, Morris Soudelier Sr.; and four brothers, Willie, Sewele, Robert A., and Fay Whitney; and sister, Rita W. Malbrough.

She retired from Terrebonne General Hospital as a nurse-attendant after 24 years. She participated in the birth of many of her grandchildren. She had been active with her arts and crafts and poetry writings. She was a Catholic and a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. Her life revolved around her children whom she referred to as her seven jewels. Her faith in God has carried her to her eternal home.
