Margaret was a daughter of Matthew Smith (1798-1886) and Nancy Rott (1805-1892). She was born in Erin Twp; Wellington County in the year 1831.

She was entered in the 1871, 1891, and 1901 census of Erin Twp; In the 1911 census she was residing in the village of Hillsburgh in Erin Twp;

Margaret Matilda Smith was the wife of Christopher T. Hamilton. They were married around the early 1850's.

Margaret gave birth to 11 children in Erin Twp;

2. Harriet Ann Hamilton (Stewart) 1857-1938.
