HIGH POINT – Mrs. Ernestine Morgan Kerr, 78, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. She was born on February 27, 1934, the youngest of five girls to Naomi Dye Morgan and Ernest Morgan for whom after she was named.
Ernestine married the late Louis N. Kerr, II and they moved to New York where they lived for more than forty-eight years. She was a founding member of New Star Baptist Church and Rising Star Baptist Church, where she was a Deaconess, Trustee Board Member and active in the community.
She relocated back to her hometown of High Point in 2007. Ernestine reunited with her St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church family. While active in her church she was a member of the Sequoia Ministry and served assistant Class Leader of Class #9.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis N. Kerr, II; two sisters, Mrs. Louise M. McCloud and Mrs. Dorothy M. Ross; and one grandson, Tyler Kerr.
Surviving to cherish her memories are her two sons, Louis N. Kerr, III and Keith C. Kerr both of High Point, NC; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Maebell Simon and Mrs. Sarah Moore both of High Point, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, 1012 Leonard Ave. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Entombment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park, High Point, NC. Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service Inc., High Point, NC.
