Viola I. Reifenrath, age 88 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Monday, October 08, 2012 at the Avera Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton, SD.

Viola was the daughter of John and Caroline (Luft) Arens. The sixth of eleven children, she was baptized, received first communion and confirmed at St. Rose Church at Crofton. She graduated from Crofton High School in 1942. Viola married Norbert Reifenrath at St. Rose in Crofton on September 25, 1944. They moved to the farm that Norbert's parents homesteaded south of the overhead bridge where they lived and farmed for 42 years. They built a new home in Crofton in 1986. She loved spending time with family and friends playing cards, golfing, traveling, and entertaining guests serving her famous fried chicken dinner.

Throughout her life she took pleasure in her flower gardens, crocheting, feeding and watching the birds in her backyard, and her trip to Germany.

She was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Constance. She was very involved in her church and community thru Christian Mothers, extraordinary Minister, Liturgy and Catholic Daughters. She was also a dedicated wife and mother. Her greatest happiness and pride was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Viola is survived by her four children and their spouses, Connie and David Ballard of Las Vegas, NV, Mick and Kathy Reifenrath of Crofton, Terry and Mike Mueller of Crofton, Marie and Randy Goeden of Crofton; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Irvin Arens of Randolph, NE, Gerald Arens of Hartington, NE, Alvin and wife Sharon Arens of Norfolk, NE; sister Eleanor and husband Marion "Sam" Nelson of St. Helena, NE; sister-in-law Margaret Arens and husband Roger of Crofton, Arlene Arens of Yankton, SD, Laura Arens of Crofton; brother-in-law Tom and Jeanne Reifenrath of Crofton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norbert on October 13, 2004 at the age of 89 years; an infant brother, Benjamin, her sisters, Cecilia Reifenrath, Leona Thunker, her brothers, Ray Arens, Clarence Arens, Lawrence Arens and Harold Arens. Many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Susan and Vincent Lopez, Chad and Amy Reifenrath, Jon and Stephanie Ballard, Brent and Mandi Mueller, Jennifer and Brent Tschirren, Casey and Sarah Reifenrath, Annie and Nick Lancaster, and Tasha Mueller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Viola's great grandchildren.
