Lawrence F. Arens

CROFTON -- Lawrence F. Arens, 76, died Nov. 30, 1998 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.

Visitation was Dec. 1 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Dec. 2 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Bob English officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton.

Pallbearers are David Arens, Rick Arens, John Arens, Brian Arens, Doug Nelson, Bob Thunker, Mick Reifenrath, Darrell Reifenrath.

Honorary Pallbearers are Charlie Guenther, Joe DeBlauw, Roman Kramer, Carl Wolf, Francis Mueller, Lawrence Reifenrath and John Leader.

Lawrence was born Nov. 14, 1922, to John and Caroline (Luft) Arens in Crofton.

He married Mary Ann Tramp Jan. 25, 1944, in Crofton.

He farmed for 28 years southwest of Crofton before moving into town in 1970. He worked in construction beginning at Gavins Point Dam and then as construction superintendent for Christiansen Construction Co. of Pender. After retiring he was instrumental in organizing the Crofton Lakeview Golf Course Association. He spent countless hours in the construction and management of building the course. He was a charter member serving as president of the Board of Directors and superintendent/manager of the course. He also owned and operated the Sharp All Shop.

Lawrence was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, Crofton; two children and their spouses, Larry and Ann Arens, Crofton; Judy and Steve Boesch, Vernon Hills, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bernie (Sharon) Asbra, Laurel; 11 grandchildren, Amy and T. J. Diefenderfer; Shawn and Kristi Arens; Patrick, Kelly, Trisha and Todd Arens; Jeremy and Adam Wysuph; two great-grandchildren, Kayle and Colton Diefenderfer; three step-grandchildren, David, Teresa and Elizabeth Asbra; six brothers and their spouses, his twin brother, Clarence and Arlene Arens, Crofton; Harold and Margaret Arens, Crofton; Gerald Arens, Crofton; Ray and Norma Arens, Bloomfield; Irvin and Barb Arens, Randolph; and Alvin and Sharron Arens, Norfolk; and three sisters and their spouses, Leona Thunker, Crofton; Viola and Norbert Reifenrath, Crofton; and Eleanor and Sam Nelson, St. Helena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Cletus and Ron Arens; a grandson, Drew Foster; and a sister, Ceil Reifenrath.
