Youngest son of Louis (Leib) Alkes and Dora (Dwoire) Rutkonitz.

Chonel was born in Bialystok and emigrated to the US with his mother, arriving on June 2, 1907 on the ship Badenia originating in Hamburg. Their manifest page cannot be found but their Hamburg departure indicates they departed on May 18th and "Dwoire and son" appear on the Detained alien list for pickup by husband Leib.

He married Jennie Rutkowitz (possibly from his mother's family) and they had four children: Nettie (Friedman), Elayne Yetta (Suckman), Syvlia (Chernin), and Henry Jr. He died much too young when Jennie was pregnant with their son.
