HARRIS, Joye Humphreys, died at her home on December 15, 2009 in New Kent. She was the daughter of the late Homer A. and Ruth Gilbert Humphreys born on August 11, 1931, in Buena Vista, Virginia. Joye received her degree from Longwood College and graduated in the class of 1952 and taught for several years. She was a loving mother, companion and friend. A longtime member of the Saint Peter's Church, she served on the altar guild and provided the church with acolytes for nearly 25 years. Joye is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Malcolm Hart Harris Jr.; and their five sons and their wives, Malcolm and Barbie of Kentucky, Jere and Donna of New Kent, Meade and Susan of Albemarle, Allan and Monica of Chesterfield, and Henry of Henrico; 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Mary Hart, Taylor, Shannon, Derek, Lauren, Miles, Rebecca, Kelly and Emily Joye; a brother, Homer A. Humphreys and wife, Virginia, of West Point; three sisters, Faye Sadler of West Point, Anne Talman of Richmond, and Kaye and her husband, Al DeSpain, of Lynchburg; two sisters-in-law, Mary Hart and her husband, Fred Satterwhite, of Williamsburg and Betsy Smith of Louisa. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Saint Peter's Church in New Kent County, Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at Vincent Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 417 11th Street, West Point, Va. Condolences may be registered at www.vincentfh.com.
