New Bloomfield- Eugene Elwood "Slim" Hench, 86, of New Bloomfield, Passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 in Harrisburg Hospital.
Born December 4, 1925 in Loysville, he was the son of the late John E. and Ruth E. Ickes Hench.
Eugene was retired from Smith Farm Equipment of Newport and was a WWII veteran, a member of the Bloomfield Cemetery Board of Directors and a faithful member of the New Bloomfield United Methodist Church. He was a well respected master mechanic and took great pride in being able to fix or repair any kind of tractor or lawn mower. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending many hours at his son's home cutting and splitting wood.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Josephine Askins Hench; a son, Alan E. Hench and wife Susan of Loysville; two daughters, Kathleen J. Ness and husband Michael and Beverly S. Hench all of Camp Hill. Surviving is brother, Dale Hench of Quarryville, PA and three sisters, Elizabeth Lyons Hench of Elizabethtown, PA, Helen Crofts of Dover, DE and Sarah Fry of Carlisle. 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward and Glenn Hench.
Services will be held at noon on Friday, October 12, 2012 in New Bloomfield United Methodist Church. His Pastor, Rev. Jean Felty will officiate. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Bloomfield United Methodist Church, PO Box 96, New Bloomfield, Pa. 17068.
Arrangements are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield/Duncannon.
