J.M. REED EXPIRES AT RIPE OLD AGE

Father of William M. Reed, of This City, Dies This Morning in Greensburg

ONCE AGENT AT LOCKPORT

The venerable James M. Reed died of general debility early this morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Tebbetts, No. 345 North Maple street, Greensburg, aged ninety-one years. Mr. Reed, who was born at Chambersburg, Franklin County, was a brother of the late Capt. John H. Reed, for many years a resident of Johnstown.

James Reed was one of the first employees of the Pennsylvania Railroad, having served as agent at Lockport, Westmoreland County, for many years. In politics Mr. Reed was a staunch Republican and served as Treasurer of Westmoreland County at one time. He was elected about forty years ago, when the politics of the county was wrested from the Democratic party.

Mr. Reed was the father of William M. Reed, of Johnstown; Covode Reed, and Sallie, wife of Howard Tebbetts, of Greensburg, and Mrs. William Hazlett, of St. Louis, and besides these he is survived by six grandchildren. Dr. Ross Reed, the deceased's youngest son, died about a year ago. Mr. and Mrs. William Reed have been at Greensburg for a few days and were joined there this afternoon by their son, David Reed. James Reed's wife, who was a daughter of the late Hon. John Covode, died suddenly some twenty years ago while visiting acquaintances at West Fairfield. The funeral of James Reed will take place form the Tebbetts home on Monday afternoon, interment to be made in the Greensburg Cemetery.
