Fielder Bowie was the son of Allen Bowie and his first wife, Priscilla O'Neale, widow of Capt. William Finch, Jr. He attended Rev. Eversfield's School in Nottingham.

At the death of his father, he received Brookridge, Essex Lodge, Leith and other tracts, making him the owner of more than two thousand acres of property.

In 1766, he married Elizabeth Claggett Eversfield.
