William's Obituary

RitchieJuly 9, 1950 - Nov. 25, 2011 YUKON Surrounded by the love of his family, Bill went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with bone cancer. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Harvey Ritchie, Sr. Bill leaves behind his mother, Noweta Webb-Ritchie; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Janet Ritchie; nieces, Lauri Martin and Christina Short; nephews, Jesse and Stephen Frazee; brother, David Webb; niece Lakyn; nephews, Kolton and Jakob Webb; sister and brother-in-law; Brenda and Michael Pugliese; nephew, Justin Howard; great-niece, Abby Howard; nieces, Arlianna Pugliese and Mrs. Micaela and Vincent Provenzano. At seventeen years of age, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country in Vietnam. While there, Bill experienced atrocities that were unfamiliar and foreign to the daily lives of those in the United States. Like many of his fellow soldiers, Bill returned to the United Stated, not to a "Hero's Welcome," but to the shameful, underserved protest of ignorance. Feelings of betrayal and rejection, resulted in being disillusioned and set the course for many of the difficult years that followed. At forty-eight years years of age, Bill found what he had been searching for when a stranger asked Bill to attend church. This is where Bill found God and the acceptance and love that changed his life. Bill has been an active member of numerous Bible study groups, attended "Prayer First," and a devoted and much-loved participant of his Sunday School Class. Bill was blessed to have met the love of his life, Ms. JoAnn Ripper, whom Bill referred to as the "person who taught him to love and be loved." Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to those who lovingly cared for Bill: Heavenly Hospice, Mindy Reece, Ava, Shelle, Heather, Kristen and
Rev. Ray Wade for their truly compassionate care, respect, and love; Mrs. Yolanda Scott, Benefits Coordinator, OU Medical Center, for being the voice of those who are too physically weak and not versed in dealing with the numerous and seemingly endless excuses given by the Social Security Administration. Thank you, Yolanda, for your perseverance in assisting Bill in receiving his first SS Disability Check
twenty five years after being unjustly denied (Yolanda, your father must be smiling with pride from Heaven}: Dr. Mohammad Khalil, M.D. University of Oklahoma, who provided expert care, detailed explanation and options, for your years of study, and devotion to all of your patients. In lieu of flowers, please never miss the opportunity to express gratitude to those who serve our country and have and continue to sacrifice their comfort and life to provide for our safety and well-being. Regardless of your political beliefs regarding the necessity of war, please recognize them one human being to another that there are those who are willing to sacrifice their life for our country. Please invite someone to church; it is very possible that you could change their life. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 27, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service.
