John Hunt was born on March 4, 1818 in Clermont County, Ohio, a son of Thomas Hunt (1787-1836) and Elizabeth Hunt (nee Bredwell) (1791-1849). John Hunt married Julia Ann Mylar, daughter of James Mylar and Henrietta Mylar (nee Jett), on September 10, 1840 in Fulton County, Illinois. Julia died on September 22, 1901, in Kern City, Kern County, California and was buried in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, California. John Hunt's obituary:
A Long Life Ended.
Another California pioneer has answered the final summons and the long, useful life of John Hunt is at an end. The aged man, who passed his last three years at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Orton, in this city [Ventura], was stricken suddenly yesterday morning, about 9 o'clock, with an attack of heart failure and it was only a short time until he breathed his last.
The deceased was a native of Ohio, but had been a resident of California for over fifty years, coming across the plains to Oregon in the forties, and a short time later to this state. He was aged 90 years, 5 months and 20 days.
Owing to his advanced age, with its accompanying disabilities, he was unable to leave his home and make many acquitances, but all who knew him loved the kindly old gentleman, and respected him for the honest upright life he had so long led. He is survived by three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Orton being the only one living in this section.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
