William Sewell Brownlow was born & raised on a farm near Brownlow Creek in northwest Giles County, TN. At the age of 18yrs, he came to Texas with his parents and 8 siblings. The family arrived in Kyle, Hays, TX. He married Laura Mae Strong, December 31, 1902 in Manor. The marriage record lists the groom as "Willie Brownlow" - Laura called him "Sewell". The couple had 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters: (in order of birth), R.P. Brownlow, Opal Brownlow, Della Mae Brownlow, William Edgar Brownlow, and David Sewell Brownlow.

After farming in the Del Valle (Travis Cnty) and Goforth (Hays Cnty) areas, the family moved to Ft. Worth, TX in 1911. There they settled on a farm near Kennedale.

Sewell Brownlow, died in 1915 of tuberculosis, survived by widow, Laura, and five young children. He was buried in Hawkins Cemetery (at that time a rural cemetery) about a mile from their farm.
