Found his marriage license, married Oct 27, 1897 in Cape Girardeau, MO to Mary J Millar. She was from Bollinger County. His daughter's name is Helen Louise Birkman. Trying to find out if wife's maiden name was Mueller, her death cert has Milar but then her maiden name on there is mispelled.
Thanks to Brenda Joyce who found his wife's obit so I could verify that Mary is buried at Mount Lebanon Cemetery and the obit has their two living children listed.
His daughter, Helen Louise Birkmann (she had married a Walter Seehausen in 1921 then got divorced. She was married to a Gregory at the time of her death, March 19, 1993. This info came from Familysearch.org about Gregory last name.

Good Hope Street Hotel Proprietor Victim of Stroke.
Charles R. Birkmann, 57 years old, for the past two years proprietor of the Good Hope hotel on Good Hope street, died at 3 o'clock Wednesday night at the hotel after an illness of several weeks. Death was due to a complication of maladies, including Bright's Disease and paralysis, the deceased having suffered a paralytic stroke three weeks ago.
Birkmann who was born and reared in the vicinity of Whitewater, has been a resident of Cape Girardeau for many years and had operated a number of small restaurants here.
He is survived by his widow, a son and a daughter, his mother, and a brother and sister. The children are Charles Jr., and Mrs. Walter Seehausen of Cape Girardeau. His mother, Mrs. Louise Birkmann, the brother, William Birkmann, and a sister, Mrs. Louis Cunningham, all reside near Whitewater.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Catholic church, following which the remains will be taken to Whitewater for interment in the Birkmann family cemetery. Rev. M. J. LeSage will have charge of the services.
