From the book South Carolina Portraits, A Collection of Portraits of South Carolinians and Portraits in South Carolina, compiled by The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina, edited by Christie Zimmerman Fant, Margaret Belser Hollis and Virginia Gurley Meynard, page 108: Eliza Middleton, youngest daughter of Henry and Mary Helen (Hering) Middleton of Middleton Place, was born in Charleston on June 9, 1815. She, her sister Catherine, and brothers Edward and Williams remained in England with their maternal uncle and his wife to attend school while their father served as American minister to Russia, joining their parents in St. Petersburg almost seven years later. The family returned to the United States in 1830. Eliza was married at Middleton Place to Joshua Francis Fisher of Philadelphia on March 12, 1839...Thereafter, she made her home in Philadelphia, where her six children were born. She died on February 19, 1890 in Philadelphia and is buried there at Trinity Church Oxford cemetery.
