John Emanuel Anesi, 99, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday (September 30, 2012) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Lewis and Teresa (Cherry) Anesi, who were from Austraia, Italy; John was born December 31, 1912 in Novinger, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Rena Maybell Hobbs who preceded him in death. He later married Margaret King.
His parents; one daughter, Patsy Smith; four brothers, Joe, Sielo, Pete and Jimmy Anesi; one sister, Mary Fickel and one grandson, Larry Dean Baker also preceded John in death.
John is survived by two sons, John "Joey" Anesi and John Wesley Shackelford both of Kirksville, MO; two daughters, Penny Veach of Hannibal, MO and Toni Meador of Kirksville, MO; a sister-in-law, Mary Virginia Anesi of Kirksville, MO, as well as a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
John resided most of his life in Adair County and received his education in the Novinger public schools. He served in the United States Army from February 21, 1941 to September 25, 1945. After being honorably discharged, John returned home and worked as a meat cutter for several area businesses. He was last employed as a meat cutter for Western's Meat Market.
John's hobbies included fishing, playing cards and watching baseball.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (October 3, 2012) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.
Family will receive friends one hour before the graveside service on Wednesday in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Zack Truitt, Vernie O'Haver, Josey Anesi, Denny Meador, Jerry Hilderbrand and T.J. Miller.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of John Anesi may be made to the Salvation Army. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
