Uncle Bo
John Robert " Bo " Bryant, 55, of Roland Street, son of Hattie Dicken Bryant and the late Robert Allen Bryant, was born in Taylor County on October 30, 1931. He died suddenly at 10:55 a.m., Friday, June 5, 1987, at the Taylor County Hospital in Campbellsville, Ky. Bo was of the Baptist faith, and was activated with the Kentucky National Guard to the United States Army in January 1951 for the Korean Conflict and served until October 1952. He then re-entered the United States Army in October 1962 and retired from military service on April 30, 1981. During this time with the Army he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with the First Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Service Medal with two bronze Service Medals; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster; Rifle Expert Badge; and Good Conduct Medal Clasp with one Silver Loop. After retiring from distinguished service to his country, he moved back to Campbellsville and owned and operated Main Street Gun and Pawn Shop. He was a member of the U.S. Hessen Masonic Lodge #844 F&AM in West Germany. He united in marriage to Beverly Hester Dec. 3, 1952. To this union three sons were born. Besides his wife and sons, he is survived by one grandson and two granddaughters, his mother, Hattie Bryant, Campbellsville; three sisters and one half brother, Lula Mae Hedgespeth, Lois Wilcoxson, Wanda Smith and Robert Caffee ; one step-brother Billie Dickens of Campbellsville and three step-sisters: Anna Mae Mitchell of Arizona, Mildred Dickens Carter and Geraldine Wheat , all of Campbellsville; and several other relatives and friends. The funeral was at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 7, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by the Rev. Randy Smith and the Rev. Charles Shetter. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Bo had always wanted to open up a Pawn Shop in the town that he lived in. He loved meeting people, and loved to compare all types of gun's. He loved having all the town men, coming in his Pawn shop, and sitting around talking about being in the service together. He was a loving husband and Father, and a great uncle. He served his country for several years and had traveled around the world, telling about the good and bad.
