John and Margaret were parents of 11 children,the first 4 born in Lancashire England, the other 7 all born in Middlesex Co, Ontario Canada. The 3 oldest died in Ontario Canada. William Edwin, Sarah & little John who was only abt 4 yrs old. The 8th, a son named Richard, died as an infant. 2 sons born later were named for the 2 who died. The Butterfield & Stockdale families arrived in Canada in July 1832. Their youngest daughter Saronia May "May" Butterfield Pepoon is buried in San Diego. My great grandfather, Richard Henry, born 1841 in Canada, was a Union soldier in the Civil War, as were his 2 brothers, James & John I. John's MI death certificate lists his mother's name as Jane but that was the name of his older sister, not his mother.
