Cornelia Buxton Smith was the only daughter of the Marcus DeForest Smith family not to marry. She lived with her parents, and after her mother died, it appears that she took care of her father. Cornelia was the twin of Irene B. Smith (Mrs. Edwin D. Crandall), also buried in Center Cemetery.

Cornelia was the family member who supplied the genealogical information about her Smith branch for the book Dodge Genealogy: Descendants of Tristram Dodge by Theron Royal Woodward (Chicago, IL: Lanward Publishing Co., 1904).
