Young John Guthery was born to Nathaniel Hagan and Sarah Jane Holt Guthery on 7 August, 1858, in Washington County, Arkansas, the first born of seven known children. He grew to adulthood around the farming communities, being a farmer, and teamster. In one census he is listed as being married three times, but I've only found a record for two wives, Nancy Joann 'Annie' Lingston (or Langston) and a Mary G. with the same birth and death dates as listed for Nancy J. Nancy Joann 'Annie' first married a Carpenter, then Henry C Hendershot, then in 1902 married Young John Guthery in Whitebead, Indian Territory (Garvin County), Oklahoma. No known children were born to this marriage, however she had children by both her previous marriages whom Young John supported and helped raise. I've not located a resting place for Nancy J, but Mary G is in the Roger Mills County cemetery of Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Jack, as he was sometimes called, was preceded in death by his parents and his wives.
One source in Ancestry.com lists him as 'Papa-Jack', so info is available out there.
I would respectfully request if anyone has any additional information on Young John Guthery that they please contact me and we can discuss and update files.
YOUNG JOHN GUTHERYs' headstone has been changed, reportedly because the old stone was broken and unreadable. Currently it lists him as 'Jack Guthrie', which is okay, for that was his nickname, and our last name was interchangeably mixed, depending on who was doing the spelling. However, whoever changed the stone should know he was Cora Bonds oldest brother, NOT her uncle! Bob Guthery, his great nephew, March 2013
