Montrose friends of J. M. Dolan, 27-year-old Durango brakeman, a former resident of this section and the son of W. T. Dolan of Uncompahgre were shocked to learn that he was fatally injured under a freight train at Oxford Saturday morning, and died at Durango hospital that afternoon. He had visited here frequently since he went to Durango to reside, and was well known in this section. His untimely death has brought much sadness to the community in which he formerly made his home.
Mr. Dolan left for Durango immediately upon receiving word of his son's accident. The following account of the accident appeared in the Durango Herald-Democrat:
"Dolan was thrown under a box car of a moving train when a brake staff broke. His legs were mangled and he died soon after being taken to a hospital at Durango.
"He was rushed to the Mercy hospital in Durango, by a passing motorist, accompanied by Trainmaster F. E. Peake and Fireman J. N. Burnett, where it was found necessary to amputate the left leg below the knee.
The Injured man is a son of Mrs. Nora Bradshaw of 1468 Second Avenue; he is a man of sterling character and habits, and has been employed by the Rio Grande Southern for a period of four years, and previous to entering his present occupation had been employed as car man in the Durango yards.
The other members of the crew on the train at the time of the accident were Conductor Menefoe, Brakeman F. F. Douds, Wengineer Vointon and Fireman Burnett.
Trainmaster F. E. Peake was riding with the crew. Seeming to prove the adage that misfortune never comes singly, a brother of the deceased man, Morris Dolan of Uncompahgre, and his wife were quite severely injured in an automobile wreck a short distance this side of Colona Sunday evening, when the car in which they were riding failed to make a curve and struck a telephone pole.

A family story: Justins Mother, Nora Etta Leatherman Dolan Biggs, was married to a man named zink. He was mean to grandma beating her up on a regular basis. The story goes that they roped off a street in Durango, I believe, and Justin whipped the crap out of "old man zink" as the family called him. I know, had I been there, I would have joined him. She was a dear sweet Christian woman who didn't deserve to be treated the way he treated her.
