OBITUARY:
"Jacob R. Platt, 88, a retired farmer, who lived two miles southwest of Portland died at the Jay County Hospital where he had been confined since fracturing a hip one week ago. He was born Sept. 24, 1875 in Geneva, the son of Martin V. and Sarah (Kerns) Platt. On Feb. 7, 1904, he was married to Nellie A. Shreeve who survives with four sons and six daughters, Charles L. Platt, Portland, David M. Platt, Genoa, Ohio, Ray E. Platt, Pennville, Virgil M. Platt, Noble Township, Mrs. Herman Lawson of Pike Township, Mrs. John Moody, Portland, Miss Norma G. Platt, of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Roy Blunk, Portland, Mrs. Gene Caylor, near Pennville, and Mrs. Hamor Williamson, Portland; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were in Portland with burial in the Salamonia Cemetery."
