The occupant of a Spotsylvania County farm house, destroyed by an explosion and fire Monday, was listed in satisfactory condition today at the MCV burn center in Richmond. The patient, Dallas Jones Weyer, 66, of RFD 2, Spotsylvania, was pulled from the rubble of the two-story frame house at Wilderness Run as fire destroyed it.
At the time of the fired about 7:30 p.m. Monday, the householder repeatedly refused medical treatment, despite the fact that burns covered most of the body. The burn victim was admitted to the hospital late yesterday.
from FLS c. 28 Sep 1973:
Explosion, fire level rural house
As explosion in a wooden house on Va 3 triggered a fire last night destroying it and burning its resident, Dallas Jones.
According to a spokesman for the Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department, the occupant told firemen she was standing in the kitchen about 7:30 p.m. when she struck a match to light a cigarette just before the explosion.
Neighbors apparently pulled her from the rubble of the two-story frame house which was engulfed by flames as 10 firemen arrived at the house, located at Wilderness Run, about 12 miles west of Fredericksburg.
Firemen, who stayed at the scene for about two hours, attributed the blaze to a possible gas leak or other combustible flames in the building (sic).
The householder repeatedly refused medical treatment, despite the fact that burns covered most of her body. Sections of her hair and clothes were burned off, police and fire spokesmen said.
