Deceased Name: Anita N. Scherr

FAIRBURY - Anita N. Scherr, 82, of Fairbury died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday (July 7, 2001) at her residence.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Fairbury. The Rev. Max Borah and the Rev. Stanley Rapp will officiate. Burial will be in Avoca Township Cemetery, rural Fairbury. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, with a Rebekah service at 7 p.m. There also will be visitation for an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the renovation fund of First United Methodist Church, Fairbury; Community Cancer Center; or OSF Franciscan Hospice of Central Illinois.


She was born Dec. 24, 1918, at Fairbury, a daughter of Charles and Cora Lane Dart. She married Earl F. Scherr on March 12, 1941, at Fairbury. He died April 5, 1989.

Survivors include two sons, George M. (Lois E.) Scherr, Washington; and Charles Leroy (Diane) Scherr, Downs; and two daughters, Betty J. (Mike Wright) Hostetter, Atlanta, Ga.; and Doris (Allen) Reiners, Odell.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Douglas (Barb) Scherr, David (Beth) Scherr, Debbie (Shawn McVey) Scherr, Tom Scherr, Paul Scherr, Melissa Reiners, Heidi Reiners and Chad Hostetter; and five great-grandchildren, Quentin Earl and Claire Angela Rose Scherr; Jeremy Ryan Scherr; Emily Rose Reiners; and Zachary Alan Hostetter.

Mrs. Scherr also was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

She was a lifetime Livingston County area resident and a graduate of Fairbury Township High School. She was a homemaker and was a ward clerk at Fairbury Hospital for many years. She also was active in the family farm operation her entire life.

Mrs. Scherr was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fairbury, and its church circle.

She was a 24-year member of Rebekah Lodge, serving as past noble grand; a 62-year member of the Sunbeam Club; a Sunday school teacher; and a volunteer for hospice and OSF Saint James Hospital, Pontiac.

She also enjoyed playing cards, quilting and her family and friends.
