Shoots His Wife Then Kills Self
George Ortloff, aged 24, a Sibley county farmer, failed in an attempt to murder his wife by shooting, and afterwords mortally wounded himself. The horrible tragedy occurred about 3 o'clock last Sunday afternoon at a picnic being held in Oak Leaf park.
Estranged domestic relations culminated in the shooting, the wife having sued for a divorce.
Ortloff died at the hospital rooms of Dr. H.H. Holm at 7:24 the same evening. The man shot himself twice with an automatic revolver, the first bullet plowing along his forehead and the second bullet entered his right temple.
The man, it is alleged, had repeatedly threatened the life of is wife and he carried out his threat without a work of altercation at the time. Three shots all took effect; one bullet lodged under the right eye, one in the right arm and the other in the back of her neck.
The bullets in the arm and neck were probed for and removed by Dr. Holm, and the patient was removed to the Swedish hospital in Minneapolis last Tuesday to have the bullet removed from the cheekbone when the swelling and inflammation has been sufficiently reduced. She will recover.
The funeral for George Ortloff was held Tuesday afternoon at his parental home in New Auburn township, Sibley county, and interment was made in the cemetery in this city. Rev. Paul G. Viehe officiated. Only relatives being present.
Much sympathy is expressed for the parents of the man and also the wounded woman who are grieved over the terrible affair that has shocked the people of this locality

Shares headstone with Lily Ortloff.
Shares plot with William, Minnie, Harry, & Catherine Ortloff.
