The death of Miss Lillian Ortloff, who passed away on Wednesday, February 29, which was briefly chronicled in last week's issue of this newspaper, resulted from a tumorous growth on the spine that started about six years ago and rendered her helpless during the six weeks prior to her demise. The best of medical aid had been appealed to by her parents but relief was impossible.
Lillian Ortloff was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ortloff, of New Auburn town, Sibley county. She was born August 14, 1903, in Green Isle township, Sibley county, and attained the age of 24 years, 6 months and 15 days. Besides her sorrowing parents, she leaves to mourn her passing one sister and four brothers, namely, Mrs. Gust Brelje (Marie), of New Auburn town; Ed, of Sumter, and William Jr., Ernst and Harry who live at the parental home, and also a brother-in-law, Gust Ortloff, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ed Ortloff, and other more distant relatives and innumerable friends.
The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon, prayers were offered at the home at 1:30 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock services were conducted at the First Evan. Lutheran church in this city by Rev. E. Kolbe.
The cortège at the last sad rites was one of the largest ever witnessed in this city, the Lutheran church being incapacitated to accommodate one-half of those assembled. This big cortège, together with the beautiful floral offerings, was a fitting tribute to the departed young life who was ever held in highest esteem, and who in face of her sickness and the knowledge of her condition never complained.
Her innumerable friends sincerely regret the passing of this young woman, and they sympathy of all is extended the parents and members of their family in their bereavement and loss.
Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. The pallbearers were Alvin Jungelaus, Otto Eggersgluess, Martin Streich, Clarence Ortloff, Warren Plieseis and William Ehrenberg, Jr., The flower girls were Elsie Ortloff, Iona Grenke, Erma Plieseis, Erma Pischke, Dorothy Ehrenberg, Erna Brelje, Irene Ortloff and Gertrude Plieseis.
