He died of an attack of cramp, or paralysis of the bowels. He was seized with this ' attack in the field near his home Friday afternoon, and although subject to cramp, this was the most violent spell he had ever had, and during its paroxysms he suffered severely. He was buried at Fish Pond last Sunday morning, and it is said that the burial attendance was the largest in the history of Fish Pond church. Rev John Nix conducted the service. Deceased was forty-eight years of age. He was married to Miss Lucinda Johnson and their union was blessed with nine children, all of whom survive him and mourn for him. Three brothers and three sisters are also bereft of this good man's earthly presence. Mr Johnston was a leader in his community in all movements for the betterment of his people and the moral uplift of the country. For many years he had been justice of the peace in his precinct and no man ever held a public trust more sacredly, or did more to uphold the dignity of the law, and at the same time he endeavored always to bring about peace and good will among all his people. His memory will be cherished and kept green by those who loved him for his many virtues. The Alexander City Outlook. Alexander City, Alabama. 17 Apr 1908, Fri • Page 1.
