BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — Patricia L. Fine, 74, of Bronxville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012.

She was born during a ferocious snowstorm on the first day of spring, March 21, 1938, in Washington, D.C., the only child of the marriage of Wade Berlin Hatch, of Akron, Ohio, and Lena Hepner, of Herndon, Pa. Following her parents' divorce, Pat moved to her grandparents' farm in Pennsylvania.

She attended the Red Cross Elementary School in Red Cross, Pa. It was a two-room schoolhouse with no running water. Her teacher, Emory Seaman, was her cousin and best friend. She graduated with honors from Mahanoy Joint High School, Dalmatia, Pa. She was awarded a scholarship to attend nursing school and went to the Capital City School of Nursing, Washington, D.C. While there, she met James Fine, a medical student at Georgetown Medical School. He was to become her husband. After Dr. Fine's graduation and internship, the young couple moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he was a captain in the Air Force. They then moved to Mount Vernon, N.Y., Dr. Fine's childhood home. He attended Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan as a surgical resident.

After raising five children, Pat decided to pursue her nursing degree at Pace University, Pleasantville, N.Y. She received her R.N. in 1975 and her bachelor of science in 1979. After graduation, Pat worked as a registered nurse at New Rochelle Hospital Center. For 20 years, she ran her husband's general surgery practice in their office in Mount Vernon.

Pat was an active member of the Bronxville Women's Club, the registrar of the DAR and a member of the Boulder Ledge Garden Club, where she was chairwoman of the last flower show. In connection with gardening, she was a member of the Ninth District Garden Club, New York State. She also was a member of the Leewood Golf Club, a docent for the Bronx Zoo, a member of the Hessian Society and a "greeter" at Reformed Church of Bronxville.

She was a taphophile and could be found many Sunday afternoons scouring old cemeteries, searching for long-lost ancestors. Her DAR ancestor was John Blasser, a Swiss immigrant who fought in the American Revolution in 1776. She was an expert in creating Moravian Christmas stars. One of her creations graced the cover of the Villager, the monthly magazine of the Bronxville Women's Club.

Pat loved animals and always had several cats and dogs in residence. She loved her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage and her adopted home of Bronxville.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James; son, James, M.D., of Morganton, N.C., wife, Heather, and sons, Michael and Christopher; daughter, Valerie Limekiller, of Eastchester, N.Y., husband, Michael, and son, Jonathan; son, Stephen, of Miami, Fla., wife, Virginia, and daughter, Ashley; son, Jeffrey, M.D., of Mamaroneck, N.Y., wife, Natalia, and daughter, Isabella; and daughter, Susan Fine-Bellinger, of Yonkers, N.Y., and husband, Allan; one sister, Gloria "Lollie" Rothermel, of RR Herndon; and one brother, James Long, of RR Herndon.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, Pa.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Herndon Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Sweppenhiser officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
