Ferr D. Blackburn

May 9, 1933 ~ Sept. 24, 2012

Throughout his 79 yrs. Ferr has been known for his "good works."

He loved growing up on their ranch in Glendale, UT with his parents, Lester and Dola; sisters Helen (Boyd Willden), Lilly (Jerry Harris (deceased)) and brothers Paul (deceased) (Joy), Charles (deceased) (Marge (deceased)), Larry (Jeanne) and Dee (Janet) Perry.

When Ferr was 13, his father died and the family moved to Cedar City where he repaired bicycles, worked in a tractor dealership and became a journeyman mechanic at age 16.

He was one of the few students to drive a hot rod to school. After graduation from high school the family moved to Provo where he worked for several car dealerships as a master mechanic.

He served on the Search and Rescue Squad and became a motorcycle police officer, Chief of Police in Ephraim, UT., Head of the Sanitation and Transpiration Dept. in Provo City and Maintenance Foreman at BYU Dairy Farm and Nuskin Enterprises.

He was an active member and President of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and the Old Car club. He took his family on many tours in his 1930 Cadillac and drove his 1912 Ford Speedster in parades.

He was drafted in the Army in 1953. He married Mary Alice Young in 1956 and was sent overseas to Germany where he served as a motor sergeant for two years. Their daughter Barbara Ann was born while he was in Germany. Their other children include Janet (Gene Layosa), Robert (deceased) (Annette), Bryon (Diane) and Garth (deceased).

His wife Mary died in 1987 and Ferr married Shirley Morley Hansen in 1988. She has five sons; Kevin (Tammy), Kim (deceased), Kelly (deceased) (Lisa), Kolynn (deceased) and Kirk (deceased)

They have 19 grandchildren. Ferr and Shirley enjoyed serving in the Provo temple and their LDS ward together. He rebuilt a home in Mammoth for family gatherings.

He will be remembered for this endless service to family and friends, his ability to use his hands to repair and restore most anything, and his big heart.

There were many loved ones waiting to greet him as he passed on to his well-earned rest and reward for a full and productive life.

Special thanks to Tender Care Hospice personnel.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Sept. 28., 11:00 a.m. at the Pioneer 1st Ward LDS Building, (376 North 700 West, Provo) Viewing from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
