Rumsey Helmick, 69, a native Highlander and lifetime resident, died at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Friday. May 19 after a lingering illness. He was a son of the late Harvey and Lou Moats Helmick and was born in 1892. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Sammy, of McDowell; Rumsey Jr . of Staunton and Roland, at home; three daughters, Charlene of Baltimore; Hazel and Jackie, both of Warm Springs; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Wolfe, Mustoe; and three brothers, Eli, Dave and Vertis Helmick all of Monterey. Funeral severices were conducted from Asbury Methodist Church Sunday, May 21 by the Rev. A.E. Johnson and the Rev. Norman A. Compton. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
