He was born July 6, 1911, in Wood Lake to Emil and Louise (Bode) Stelter. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Wood Lake and attended school in Wood Lake. On Oct. 29, 1938, he married Anna Knappen in Lake Park. After their marriage they lived for a few years in Oakland, Calif. where he worked in the ship yards. They returned to Minnesota where they lived and farmed in Homesville Township by Detroit Lakes for 15 years. In April 1959, they moved to Moorhead where he worked at AGSCO Grain and Seed Company and later was employed as a custodian for Concordia College until his retirement. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, farming and really loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; a daughter, Kathleen (Mike) Wardlow of Henning; a son, Richard Stelter of St. Paul; two grandchildren, Michael (Tiffany) Wardlow of Glyndon and Gregory (Amy) Wardlow of Moorhead; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Ginger and Joseph and a sister, Lorena Hall of Sacramento, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ida Zoschke, Minnie Vaag and Ella Schaffran and three brothers, Herman, Hugo and Max Stelter.
Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Nilson Funeral Home, Battle Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Battle Lake
