Anna Stelter, 99, Henning, MN

Anna Stelter, 99, of Henning, died Tuesday Oct. 14, 2008, at Henning Golden Living Center.

Anna Matilda Knappen was born on Nov. 16, 1908, the youngest of 10 children to Gunder and Lena (Jacobson) Knappen in Lake Park. She was baptized and confirmed and attended school in Lake Park.

She kept house for her brother, who farmed near Lake Park, until her marriage to Arthur Stelter on Oct. 29, 1938 in Lake Park. They lived for a few years in Oakland, Calif., where Arthur worked in the ship yards and Anna did housekeeping.

Anna and Arthur returned to Minnesota in the 1940s and farmed near Detroit Lakes for 15 years.

They moved to Moorhead in April of 1959, and Anna worked as head housekeeper at the Townhouse Motor Hotel in Fargo. Following retirement in 1976, they moved to Granite Falls and later to Battle Lake.

Arthur died on March 8, 2001. Anna was an active church member when she was able. In September of 2004 Anna entered the Golden Living Center in Henning.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Alice, Ella and Lila; and brothers, Henry, John, William, Thomas, Daniel and Ole.

Anna is survived by her children, Kathleen (Mike) Wardlow, Henning, MN and Richard Stelter, St. Paul; two grandchildren: Michael (Tiffany) Wardlow, Glyndon, MN and Gregory (Amy) Wardlow, Brandon, S.D.; and four great grandchildren, Michael, Ginger, Joseph and Georgia.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Henning
