Doris Smith Wood, 83, of Lynchburg, was reunited with her husband of fifty-nine years, Melvin "Sugar" Wood, on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010. Born Sept. 27, 1927, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Frederick and Annie Morris Smith. She was retired from General Electric and was a member of Park View United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wood is survived by two daughters, Diane W. Kirkwood and husband, Robert and Carolyn Wood, all of Forest; one brother, O. Winfrey Smith and wife, Carolyn of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Steve Kirkwood, of Washington, DC and Scott Kirkwood and wife, Kelly, of Lynchburg; two great-granddaughters, Abbey Kirkwood and Izzie Kirkwood; a great-grandson, Ty Kirkwood; a former daughter-in-law, Janae Kirkwood of Alexandria; a special family friend, Robyn Ramsey and Mrs. Wood's devoted caregivers, Jean Goin and Terri Cabell. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Dec. 1, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of her daughter, Diane.
