William R. Harper, Sr. 81 of Bellaire, Ohio died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Valley Hospice Care Center South's Liza's Place in Wheeling, West Virginia.
He was bom December 26, 1929 in Bellaire, Ohio a son of the late William Hamilton and Viola Glasgow Harper.
Bill was a retired employee of the First Energy Corporation's R E Burger Plant at Dilles Bottom, Ohio, VFW Post 626, Bellaire, American Legion Post 521 Shadyside and the IAC Bellaire. He was a US Navy veteran and a loyal Bellaire Big Reds fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Laura June Crow, Virginia Schade and Betty Meager and one brother, Jack Wortman.
Surviving are his children, Debbie (Greg) Jones of Delaware, Ohio, Linda Davis of Tiltonsville, Ohio and William R. Harper, Jr. (Marla Marlin) of Bellaire, Ohio, one sister, Helen McHenry of Norton, Ohio and two brothers, Walter (Connie) Wortman of Kent, Ohio and Charles (Faith) Wortman of Flushing, Ohio and his ex-wife and friend, Theresa Joann Giannangeli Harper. Also two grandsons, Jose (Amy) Davis and Nate Davis and three great-grandchildren, Javon, Aiden and Mia Davis and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 441 37th Street Bellaire, Ohio on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm where services will be held on Sunday at 2 pm. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio.
American Legion Post 521 Shadyside will conduct services on Saturday at 7 pm at the funeral home.
