Born one mile east of Maple City, Kansas, she was the seventh child born to Ida Ellen (Myers) and Daniel D. Rush. She was raised and received her education in Winfield.
She was united in marriage to Franklin Hallman on April 27, 1939 in Wellington, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Hunnewell, Kansas for over 40 years.
Bertha decorated cakes for weddings and special occasions during the 60's and 70's. She enjoyed sketching, painting and reading. Mrs. Hallman was a member of Hunnewell United Methodist Church, South Haven United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Her husband, Franklin preceded her in death in 1979. Following his death, Bertha returned to Winfield. She joined Queen City #138 Order of the Eastern Star and renewed her membership at Grace United Methodist Church. She played in the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and toured the Holy Land in 1986 with that group.
Her family includes: Her sons: Kenneth R. Hallman of Wellington; and Henry E. Hallman and wife, Debbie of Braman, OK; Her daughters: Kay Bigler and husband, Bob of Wellington, KS; and Geri DeBuhr of Green Valley, AZ; Her sister-in-law: Bernice Rush of Arkansas City; Her 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bertha was preceded in death by her brothers, Berlyn, Fred, Albert and Ralph and her sisters, Louisa Davison, Thelma Serviss, Alice Moore and Neta Rush.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at the Braman Cemetery in Braman, Oklahoma at 2:00 that afternoon. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Friday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
A Memorial has been established in Bertha's name for the Children's Group at Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
