Penhook…….Katherine Hamblett Speck, age 96 of Penhook died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center. Born May 23, 1915 in Ashland, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James Obie Hamblett and Lucindia Delancey Hamblett. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander (Bud) Speck; a step-son, Gene Dudley; a granddaughter, Wendy Dawn Moore; a great-grandson, Drake Robertson; a great-great-grandson, A.J. Wood; two sons-in-law, Lowell David, and Larry Walker; one sister, Hazel Davis; and four brothers, Woodrow Hamblett, Jim Hamblett, Harry Hamblett, and Lawrence Hamblett. Mrs. Speck was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and was a home maker. She enjoyed knitting, reading the Bible, and cooking. She is survived by two sons, Barry Speck and his friend, Lola of Penhook, and Keith Speck and his wife, Torie of Penhook; six daughters, Trudy Hedrick and her husband, Vernon of Chatham, Sylvia David and her friend, Tom of Penhook, Carolyn Walker and her friend, Tommy of Penhook, Wanda Cook and her husband, Troy of Penhook, Brenda Perdue and her husband, Dickie of Gretna, and Sharon Moore and her husband, Davis of Gretna; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Sandy Level Baptist Church by Pastor Kendall Smith. Burial will follow in Liberty Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, February 17, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Davis Moore, 109 Bailey Street, Gretna.
