Found in The State 08 September 1920: Funeral services for Miss Ruth Porter, who died at the home of her parents in Brookland late Monday night will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Mt. Tabor Lutheran church. The Rev. J. W. Oxner will conduct the services. Miss Porter had been sick about four weeks and while she was known to be seriously ill, her death came as a shock to her many friends in Brookland and Columbia. Miss Porter was 19 years of age and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Porter. She was a young woman of many lovable traits of character. Surviving are her parents, one sister, Miss Lillian Porter, and one brother, Vernon Porter.
